Colleague Massive Loss

One of my colleagues shared with me he had sold some of his US stock holding & incurred a massive 6 figure sum losses. He lamented to me the huge drop in Dow Jones caused him to panic & he had never see such a huge drop in DJ & oil prices in a single day before. However, he is still holding AIG, Citibank & Shell which is now had 60% unrealized paper loss. I advised him with disclaimer to keep his remaining US stocks since is already down 60% & prior to the huge market correction, he is already holding to these stocks since 2009. He also liquated all his SG stocks from 10 March to 13 March after the so called US black Monday on 9 March & showed me his transaction records. I was puzzled on the 2 stocks he sold: DBS & UOB. He had bought DBS & UOB using cash on 5 March, 2020 but sold them at a loss on 13 March, 2020. Trading or investing

Like many other ppl who trade, the thrill of making huge profits within a short span of time intoxicated me. Somehow is a addiction, like taking drugs, once we get the hang of it ,we cant shake it off. For a while, i was obsessed in making risky trades and it did reward me well but sometimes i got whack down too. However it gave me a new perspective on how we should grow our money in a sensible and conservative manner. I will like to share 2 of my speculative trades here; Genting SP & UPP. Genting SP, the well known stock for punters. I short(sell first) the stock at $1.77 and cover back (buy back)at $1.74. A gain of $0.03 gave me a net profit of $2070.45 in a duration of 1 hour and 14 mins. Of course, there are seasoned traders who can earn more than this. Now we move to UPP. I bought UPP at $0.425 ,hoping it will rally up but it did not. To cut loss ,I sold off at $0.405. A loss of $0.02 resulted a loss of $2264.21 in a duration of 1 hour. Increase position on UOB

On 12 of June 2020, bought another 300 shares of UOB at $22.30 per share. Have been steadily increasing position on DBS and UOB since January 2020. Will either await the next financial result or the price for both banks to reaches a new low or whichever is earlier to add more. I still have ammo left just in case Mr Market decides to turns south again. Coincidentally, 23 March 2009 and 23 March 2020 was the Market low and 23 March was also the death anniversary of our Singapore founding father; Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Times files and we are half way through 2020, at the point of writing , China Beijing have 57 Covid 19 cases which lead to designate lockdown on certain residential area in Beijing. According to China infectious diseases expert, the discovery of Covid 19 virus strain in Beijing is a different strain that previously appears in China which is a cause for concern.
